Some questions regarding sitting

I wrote a blog post a few days ago about the placement of the pelvis when sitting. Two readers and friends, Michelle and Suzanne asked questions and wanted greater clarification.

So- as I understood it, Martin was not saying to NOT sit on a blanket. He was talking about what happens when we sit right at the edge of a blanket, with no engagement and just "hang there." What starts to happen- and I believe he was referring to really flexible yogis- is that some of the fibers of the hamstrings will start to reach their stretching capacity. Whereas if we sit on a blanket (which is SO helpful as it allows us to get a curve on the lower back) and do the Universal Principles of Alignment, then we are both aligned and engaged.

Hope this helps!

    Hi Maria Cristina,

Thanks for clarifying what Marin said about the pelvis and sitting on a blanket! I was actually in the YogaGlo workshop with Martin on the first and second days, but I had to miss the third day on the pelvic girdle because I was sick (and driving down from Santa Barbara each day). If you have any other insights to share from that third day, I/we would love to hear them! And thanks for your blog offering - I just found it and have been loving it so far!
