Studying and teaching
In a few moments I will leave the house and drive over to Santa Monica, for my second day of an Anatomy Training with Martin Kirk. Yesterday a group of dedicated yogis met at Yoga Glo and soaked- like intervertebral discs- all that Martin was offering us. We left feeling plump with information. Martin does a wonderful job of teaching anatomy using Anusara's Universal Principles of Alignment as well as our Tantric philosophy, as the framework. I particularly loved his description of how our bodies begin to form. He reminded us that there is an ethereal form that the body takes a shape around (read Optimal Blueprint), which serves as the code behind our physical body. It informs our cells where they need to go and it continues to be with us now and even after we move on.
As I was hearing Martin explain the origin of the structure of our bodies, I couldn't help but think of the Tattvas. The Tattvas are the principles of existence in Tantric cosmology, which explain how the universe is formed. I screwed the courage to ask if there was a correlation between them and Martin said that I should write something about that and send it to him- so I will!
Yesterday's session was informative and fun. Then I left and went to Black Dog, where I taught the students about Yoga philosophy and the three main schools of philosophical thought. We looked at the entire timeline of the yoga tradition. The students said to me something no group had said before, "Don't hold back Maria- we want to hear everything." Oh, joy! So I had a ball sharing and oversharing about the Vedas, Upanishads, The Gita, Classical Yoga, Advaita Vedanta, and Tantra. Many students came afterwards to tell me that it was the best class, that this is why they had done the training to begin with. I felt so blessed to be surrounded by like-minded seriously playful students of yoga! I left feeling so happy.
Now, I put on my student hat and look forward to more learning. This morning we will look at the shoulders and tomorrow at the pelvis.
I should go, since it takes me an hour to get to Yoga Glo. Then from Yoga Glo, I will go to Ryan's memorial services. They will be at 3PM at the Bel Air Presbyterian Church on 16221 Mulholland Drive.
Have a great day everyone.

I don't often comment here, but I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your posts and particularly your love and enthusiasm for learning, Whenever you write about your studies of anatomy or philosophy, my interest is perked. I'm a big geek about these things and I take pleasure in your enthusiasm about the topics. I've lost track of the number of times I've followed up on a website or book because you shared (and I learned something new!). Thank you for sharing your explorations on this blog!
