Black Dog Teacher Training, Fall 2011

Tonight was the first night of Black Dog's Teacher Training, Fall 2011. It is my fourth time around being part of this training, and I am so honored and grateful to be here. I am co-teaching it with Peter, Sigrid, Jenny and Margaret. We have a great rapport with one another and a strong structure on this 200-hour, Yoga Alliance approved training that honors a variety of different styles of Hatha yoga. Tonight was the first night and already we all can tell that this group although seems incredibly intuitive, mature and wise. We went around the room sharing a little bit of ourselves and the sharing by the students was heartfelt and deep. It made all of us share more from our hearts.

I found myself emotional from the death of my friend and student. I kept thinking about Ryan constantly throughout the evening. I didn't mention him but he was in my heart. It's amazing how as yoga teachers we meet so many wonderful people. And although we might not know our students well, we know them on a deep level.

One thing about Ryan that I just remembered today was that whenever I finished class, I gave a closing, gave thanks and said "Namaste." Then everyone would open their eyes, get their stuff, and leave. Every single time Ryan was the last one with his eyes closed. He seemed to be deeply in prayer, in meditation. Every single time he stayed for a while with his eyes closed. I always wanted to ask him what he was praying for, what he was thinking about? I have a feeling he would have told me. I just didn't dare to ask.

Now when I finish my classes, I too hope to stay a little bit longer in that sweet, sacred space, wishing him well, sending him and other who've departed a blessing.

It's the least I can do.

Thank you for a wonderfly warm, open and honest start to teacher training. I left feeling so grounded. I am certain that we will learn so much about ourselves and each other as well as yoga.
I am so honored to have you as my teacher
