Deep Hip Openers

Class today at Still Yoga was so much fun. Several students came afterwards to mention how helpful they found bringing awareness to the Iliopsoas and to the lateral rotators in the hip. The student's practice seemed simultaneously solid and soft. We also had a blast and kidded around a lot today!

The sequence I was playing with this week went something like this:

AMS
Uttanasana
(awareness of foundation, especially the inner edges of the feet which is where Inner Spiral originates from).
Lunges with side stretches
Crescent
(awareness of Lesser Trochanter and T12. Been asking the students to draw up from Lesser Trochanter to T12 as a way to stabilize the femur).
Twist
Warrior 2 to Parsvakonasana
Vasisthasana with tree leg

Uttanasana hands widen hamstrings
Tree pose
Warrior 3, Revolved Half Moon, Revolved Chapasana

Shoulder Opener
Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana to twist

blanket behind knees/calves in Malasana
blanket behind knees/calves in Vajrasana
Virasana

Pigeon #1 prep with thigh stretch
Urdhva Dhanurasana
Succirandrasana
Urdhva with Succirandrasana leg

Sitting Succirandrasana
to Agnistambasana
to Surya Yantrasana prep

Surya Yantrasana
and at the Strong class we also did Vatayasana (Horse pose)

Baddha Konasana
Windshield Wiper
Savasana

Really deep, yummy hip opener sessions this week. The students seemed grounded and happy. I wonder what next week will bring!

Lastly, my dad has a birthday this coming September 17th.
Every day I am writing something that I am grateful for that he gave to me.
So here goes:

Papi: Every time you got home from work I watched you. I remember you would go to your room, and in an orderly manner, put everything back in its place: your jacket, tie, keys, the loose change, your shoes. You taught me by example to be orderly and clean. To this day, each evening when I come home I think of you, as I put everything back. Gracias.
Bendición.
