Remembrance
As we move towards Memorial Day, I've been thinking of my teachers and all those who have walked before me. I feel such gratitude for all that I have learned and for all their generosity.
One time in a workshop with John Friend in San Francisco he was talking about how important it is to remember our teachers. He said that a good homework to do was to write down in your journal one thing that you have learned from every yoga teacher that you've studied with. I got to my hotel that evening and proceeded to do just that. I wrote for a long time, going through every single teacher- even if I only took one class from them- and I wrote something positive. That was a few years ago and I always remember that powerful exercise. I think it's time to revisit it.
SO:
To my teachers.
To the ones who are close to my heart at this time in May 2010.
Thank you:
To John Friend and how he inspires me to remember the highest.
To Sally Kempton and her courageous dedication and intellect.
To Carlos Pomeda for his clarity and strength.
To Paul Mueller Ortega for his precision and eloquence.
To Sianna Sherman for her gentle power and genius.
To Jillian Pransky for her quiet wisdom.
To Naime for everything.
And here is to a few of my fellow teachers, and how they live in my heart and what I admire about them...
To Tiffany for her facility with language and themes.
To Tanya for her loyalty and her love for Anusara.
To Jenny for her love for the students.
To Marc for his love for his guru.
To Noah for his fire and fearlessness.
To Hagar for her drive, her intellect and her dreams.
To Tony for his humor and presence.
To Tara for her generosity and brain.
To Lucy for her beautiful calm.
To Jessica always for her eloquence.
To Joy for her dedication.
To Sigrid for her kindness.
To Peter for his creativity.
To Shari and her sense of justice.
To Christina for her no-nonsense way.
To Scott and the quality of his attention.
To Danny for his angelic way.
To Kenny for his easy going nature.
There is so much more to say, and there are so many more teachers.
But for now these are the ones that come to mind at this particular moment in time.
And it was nice to revisit them and see how they live in my heart.
Thank you...

To Maria for her humility, devotion to yoga and generosity of spirit. One of the many things that touched me when I first came to your class was the way you used to greet me with a hug and sweet words of welcome. I always feel a little nervous, even now, when I go to a public class. I just love you.

And to Maria. I've been so proud to be one of your "chickens" over the last year. It has benefited me in ways you can't know. I bow to you. Namaste!
