Being present

I came upon a beautiful quote by the Buddhist teacher Sharon Salzberg which goes: "The single act of being completely present to another person is truly an act of love." And suddenly I knew what the theme for this week would be- being present.

Yoga has this lovely way of teaching us how to be fully in the moment, otherwise we can literally fall out of the pose.
This week we are doing Inversions, poses where you literally have to be so present that if not, you can strain your neck, fall to the floor, and/or simply create more tension in your body... However, If done with alignment, with sensitivity and strength, then inversions are poses that help boost the endocrine system, by optimizing the pulsation of the glands. They also provide us with great calm coupled by exhilaration. John Friend writes that in inversions "the agitations of the rational mind are dissolved, and clarity of perception is enhanced."
