Coming back home

It amazes me how twenty four hours ago I was in Hawaii and now I am in California.  How yesterday I was having breakfast at Cafe Des Amis in Maui and now I am in Los Angeles. How fast things change!
How a year went by, a decade even, and yet here I am, present in this moment.

Life is in a constant state of flux.
Life also has a stillness, a center that you can enter to at any time.
No matter where you are, your center is right there, inviting you to come to it and be there.

I had a truly magical vacation, feeling right at home in Maui.
Part of it was that Maui is heavenly and part of it was that I did many things which help ground myself, like mediation, journaling and going to yoga classes. But it was also the constant taking of deep breaths and trying to be present wherever I was, that helped me be at home 2500 miles away from my house.
Wherever you are- as the poet Kabir says- is the entry point.

It's all these years of steady and devoted yoga practice that have given me so many tools and techniques to come back to my source.

Think about it, in a regular yoga class how many poses do we do? A hundred? And in every one of those poses we are trying to hug to the midline and expand outward at the same time. One thing that starts to happen from doing this over and over is that we take what we learn from class and apply to the rest of our day, to the rest of our life. We start to find our center, our middle, we start to feel at home wherever we are; whether we are 2500 miles away, whether we are doing a headstand, or whether we are going through a challenging time.

Focus: Muscular Energy and her three flows of energy

Highlights
Practiced press up handstand with one leg back, having a fried help by placing hand inside partner's ankle, while partner's does tons of hugging in.
We later applied this to Eka Pada Galavasana

Something to think about:
I feel quite spacious from my trip and I think it really helps my teaching. I can be quite overbearing and overzealous in my giving alignment points to students and sometimes I can do too much. I felt like I was giving them space and letting them find their way. And if someone needed something and they weren't doing it, I would then tell them.
