Three-Week Breakthrough Program
Every year I do Sally Kempton's "Three-Week Breakthrough Program." It's a program she designed which you can find at the end of her truly incredible book The Heart of Meditation. The idea is to help us commit once more to our meditation practice and remotivate ourselves. The way Sally does it is really sweet and doable. She asks that you keep a journal of your daily meditations, writing about what happened, how you felt during the meditation, any insights, etc. She asks that you make an effort to mediate daily if possible for an hour up to three hours! Lastly she asks that you read inspiring books which help induce the love for the inner self and the inner world.
There are also gentle encouragements to regulate our social life and watch less -if any- TV (yikes!) and lessen newspaper reading and news watching. This is not easy for me!
The program goes into much more detail including various techniques to help in the meditations through the three weeks. I started it yesterday. I think that through the holidays, especially since I'll be in Maui on vacation, might be the most auspicious time to try this. Also at the end of a year, we're all so much more receptive to doing things that might help us center more, so that we can start again the new year planted firmly in our hearts.
Whenever I am able to sustain and deepen my meditation practice I find that I get earthier and more grounded. The worry monkey-mind becomes aware of itself and it starts to quiet down. There really is nothing like it.
As far as class today, my morning class at Still, it was so sweet. I asked students which pose they had a breakthrough on 2009. Which pose became clearer, or which principle become more accessible? Everyone shared something and we did a class inspired by what everyone said: there were Mermaid 1's, Handstands, Urdhva's and an awareness of the back body. It was just great to hear everyone articulate what they had learned from the year in terms of poses.

Thank you for the tip -- I have the book, so will explore it. Coincidentally, this morning I received an invitation to participate in one of Sally's teleconference programs. Have wanted to work with her, so signed on -- your advice will be good preparation and a nice way to enliven my current meditation practice. Enjoy Maui & the holidays. Leslie
