Few thoughts, few things...
1) A student asked yesterday in class about the sacrum and the tailbone. I was mentioning how when the pelvis is the focal point of a pose, we root down from our pelvis, down towards the earth but the sacrum goes in and up and the whole torso lengthens away from the focal point. The exact location of the focal point is the place between the sacrum and the coccyx. Therefore the sacrum goes in and up and the tailbone goes down. The student asked how could that be since the sacrum and tailbone were fused. I mentioned that there is a sacrococcygeal joint in that area that does allow some movement.
However, I realized that I needed to refresh my anatomy so I did some research today. And indeed, the sacrococcygeal joint is a cartilaginous articulation of the coccyx with the sacrum. And it is a slightly moveable joint, not as moveable as a synovial joint, but still moveable. And, it is not just a physical movement but it is also an energetic movement.
Thank you Monica for your question!
2) Also, I have decided to go through the entire Anusara syllabi, going one pose at a time in every class. The first syllabi should be a joy. I did Tadasana with the arms in anjali mudra yesterday. And so on. Wish me luck! I hope I can do this. God help me when it's time to go through the third syllabi.
3) Got a new schedule at Black Dog Yoga! I was offered a 6PM slot on Mondays and Wednesdays. Really prime time slot! I am very excited. Hagar started to teach a few weeks ago on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and now I'm there Mondays and Wednesdays. So excited that Hagar and I can bring Anusara at night to Black Dog. Stop by and see us some time!
4) Happy Halloween!
