Few thoughts tonight
It's about 10:30PM and I just got back from watching "The September Issue" with my brother at the Arclight. It's a documentary about Anna Wintour and Vogue. One of my most favorite things is watching people who are passionate about their work, do what they do. Go see it. Grace Coddington, the magazine's creative director, steals the movie.
It's late, though, so I'll keep it brief tonight...
I feel that yoga and Anusara's Universal Principles of Alignment have changed and healed my body, and consequently my life, so that whenever a student gets a glimpse, a window opened, an "aha" moment and they're able to understand how their body can be arranged in an even more elegant and powerful way, that's it for me. That makes it all worth it. Love teaching.
It wasn't always like this though. When I took over the class at Still Yoga years ago, I only had like two students (Felix!) and with time, dedication and humility, it has grown. So to the new teachers out there: stick with it, keep showing up, your classes will grow... Do what Patanjali advices: do something over and over, for a long period of time, with devotion.
Also, Still Yoga has wonderful teachers and I was able to take my friend Jenny Brill's class this morning. She is, how should I describe her? Well, I once wrote her biography for Black Dog Yoga and I remember writing something like: "She is not your regular yoga teacher..." She is fun, and loud, and hard, and loving, and funny, and challenging, and did I mention funny? I always feel like I got a great workout after her class.
This past weekend, in terms of the news in the United States, it has been so interesting to me. Have you heard what's happened over the weekend? Heard about the US Open and the MTV VMA awards? Did you hear??! For those of you who haven't heard I will share:
At the US Open, Kim Clijsters was the first unseeded woman to win the tournament! Wow. And the first mother to win a major since 1980. Good for her!
And at the VMA's young Taylor Swift was the first ever country artist to win a VMA. Wow!
Oh yes, and there was something about Serena Williams and Kanye West. But I can't remember...

I too loved Grace Coddington, she was so good. As a regular to that Still class it is just as wonderful being a student as it must be the teacher. I love it, thank you!
